It is one of the leading development organizations in Albania with experience in providing expert support for capacity building, information, education and encouragement to public and other institutions and the community to participate massively in democratization and socio-economic development processes and reforms. Its main, local and in-house employees and associates have significant experience in project technical assistance in Albania, the rest of the Western Balkans, but also globally in both emerging and transition economies. Leading staff of the organization and members have over a decade of mutual development experience in Albania and other countries, working on various projects funded by the European Commission, the World Bank, UNDP, DFID, Sida, SOROS Foundation, AECID and others. EPD maintains the Albanian network of experts in many fields and disciplines of research. The CBC is the area in which the EPD team is most specialized. The EPD core team was intensively involved in a) preparing the IPA CBC program 2007-2011, for Albania, Montenegro and Macedonia (“Cross-border Institution Building” CBIC European Union-funded Regional Project (Phase 1 2006-09) b) Establishment CBC structures in the Western Balkan countries c) building local capacity to participate in the CBC Call for Proposals and d) CBC implementation process, including the Neighborhood Programs between Albania-Greece and Albania-Italy. The EPD will have the role of fully managing the CBC program, specifically focusing on Activity Packages 3, 4 and 6.
Is national public institution responsible for encouraging and supporting innovation activities in MSMEs in order to achieve more dynamic technological development based on knowledge transfer, development research and on innovations that contribute to job creation, and to economic growth and development, while simultaneously improving the business environment for the development of competitive capabilities of companies. The focus of FITD is: (1) Co-financing micro, small and medium-size enterprises (MSMEs) registered in the Republic of Macedonia, with the aim of encouraging innovation activities, implementation of innovative solutions and innovative processes, introducing innovation and transfer of technology among companies, as well as support for companies which have high growth potential; (2) Financing newly established micro and small enterprises registered in the Republic of Macedonia, foundations and accelerators, with the aim of encouraging innovation among companies and transfer of results from scientific research into applicable, commercial activities by establishing “spin- off “companies; (3) Achieving long-term positive contribution to the development of the national economy, improving competitiveness through technological and operational improvements and the provision of new jobs; supporting the formation of business and technology accelerators, entities providing infrastructural support for innovation activities in order to promote entrepreneurship by supporting individuals who want to establish an enterprise, as well as already established companies in their initial stage. FIDT will have the role, together with ARTI, to enhance the cross-sector approach and localize national innovation strategies as well as support local innovation hubs, particularly related to activity packages 2 and 5.
Is a public, legal institution under the competences of the Council of Ministers. ARTI is established with the Decision of Council of Ministers and has started its activity in March 2010. ARTI aims to build a modern system of science, strengthen of research and technology, as well as their integration inside the higher education system. ARTI as a coordinating and guiding structure which cooperates with institutions in the field of science and technology for sustainable development of the country, in line with national priorities, development of scientific and technological policies and management of Research and Development (R&D) institutes. The mission of the Agency for Research, Technology and Innovation is to evaluate, finance, monitor and manage programs and projects in the fields of science, technology and innovation in Albania. ARTI aims to fund projects in the field of Small and Medium Business as well as transfer, modernization and renewal of their technologies. At national level, ARTI co-operates with government institutions, universities and research institutions in implementing the national strategy of Science, Technology and Innovation 2009-2015. At international level, ARTI promotes and coordinates participation of Albanian institutions in regional and EU programs in the field of STI, such as HORIZON 2020, EURAXESS, EUREKA, TEMPUS, COST, ERASMUS etc. A special focus is given to supporting the private sector and SME-s participation in Research and Innovation programs in fields of national high priority, such as public health, agriculture and environment. ARTI will have the role, together with FITD, to enhance the cross-sector approach and localize national innovation strategies, particularly related to activity packages 2 and 5.
Has been implementing national and international projects aimed at promotion, support of innovation and entrepreneurial learning. It functions as a centre opened for innovative, technology-based and profit orientated ideas. Its vision is to become a key national actor in the processes of creation of a competitive knowledge-based and innovative economy whereas its mission is promotion, support and development of innovation and entrepreneurial learning, with the aim to decrease unemployment through creation of new innovative businesses and strengthening the SMEs sector in the Republic of Macedonia. NCDIEL aims to analyse and evaluate the current state in the area of innovations, entrepreneurship, technological development and competitiveness of enterprises and national economy, stimulate development of new entrepreneurial culture to match the knowledge and innovation society, encourage entrepreneurial learning at all levels of education, both formal and informal, in order to spread entrepreneurial spirit among the population, facilitate understanding of innovation as a way how our society changes and improves, spread acceptation that innovation is the way we do business, the way we work, the options we choose as consumers and citizens, support conduction of feasibility studies and establishment of business start-up centres, incubators and technology parks, provide start-up training and financial support for the most innovative business ideas and coach them to become profitable high-growth businesses, create/develop strategies for innovations, entrepreneurship and competitiveness at all levels (company, cluster, municipality, region, state, etc.), provide soft landing services for foreign technology based companies that want to invest in Macedonia (innovation related diligence, staffing support for engineers, local partner search, etc.) and provide technical support to the SME policy makers. NCDIEL will have the role in organizing action-based research and capacity building, and particularly will have overall responsibility for activity package 1 and 6.
